Watch Online Vikalp (2011) movie

Sachin P Karande's 'Vikalp' is a case of an extremely interesting concept which falters at the execution stage. Of course, to give him his due, he has packed it with headline grabbing elements like terrorism and hacking, all of which are quite relevant in today's age and time. One is drawn into the film but after a point the interest starts waning. Of course, it is obvious that the problem lies mainly with its screenplay. A more skillfully written and crisper screenplay would have definitely ensured a more absorbing film. However, on the other hand, the film has a very topical and unconventional subject matter and a gutsy performance by Deepal Shaw to its credit. The film's story is basically about this very small town, very ordinary girl, Rishika Gandhi (Deepal Shaw), who is a wiz with computers. She works in an IT company in Mumbai from which she resigns due to the fact that she is constantly humiliated by her boss due to her vernacular roots. And to top it, her boyfriend's family accuses her of using their son. Wanting to get away from it all, she leaves India and takes up a job in an IT firm in Bangkok. But very soon she realises that matters are not what they seem and that the firm is actually a front for terrorists who are posing as an IT company only so that they can siphon off money from bank accounts through hacking and which is where Rishika comes in. And there is little that she can do as her passport is the company's possession. From here begins Rishika's fight for freedom. Also her old boyfriend comes back to help her. Even though the story has all the ingredients of a thriller, it is not edgy enough. Also parts of it seem too long drawn out and thus the movie sags horribly in those places. The most interesting portions of the movie are the places where one sees Rishika working her magic with the computers. But all that song and dance routine and the romance doesn't settle well with the movie. The director's choice of subject is great, but the execution is not really up to the mark and is even tacky and amateurish in places, even though the first half still pans out quite well. One just feels that justice has been fully done to the subject. The film's music which has been composed by Dev Sikdar and Vijay Narayan, is just about decent. But what really redeems the film is Deepal. She has talent and stands out with her exceedingly natural performance. She definitely has come a long way from the 'Kalyug' days. This is probably the last screen performance of late actor Nirmal Pandey, but sadly he doesn't do anything memorable in the movie. Of the other actors, the ones who stand out are Akshay Singh, Kranti Prakash Jha, Chetan Pandit and Pankaj Berry. On a final note, 'Vikalp' is a film which promises much more than it delivers. It's a pity as the film had a lot more potential.
