Aamir Khan's wife, Kiran Rao's directorial debut, "Dhobi Ghat" has released today. Touted as one of the most awaited movies of the year, Dhobi Ghat is nothing but a sleeping pill to make you snore throughout the movie. Unless you appreciate the intricate finery and have a critical approach, this movie is sure to bore you all the way.
Story of Dhobi Ghat: The story revolves around four human characters- a dhobi called Munna (Prateik Babbar), an investment banker called Shai (Monica Dogra) , a painter Arun(Amir Khan) and a married Muslim woman named Yasmin (Kirti Malhotra). The fifth character is the city of Mumbai- the silent spectator of all the dreams, aspirations, feelings and activities of millions of people. After a one night stand with Arun, Shai obsesses over him, while her dhobi Munna dreams of Shai. Arun, meanwhile, discovers a few tapes in his flat from the previous tenant and, watching them, falls for the woman who has made them - Yasmin. Aamir Khan fails to live up to the expectations and performs below his potential, while the rest of the cast, especially, Pratik soars to new levels with their stunning performances. Mumbai is excellently seen in the metaphor of an old woman who blankly stares at all the characters, but says nothing. Tushar Kanti Roy does some excellent work with his camera.
Rating: Dhobi Ghat gets only 3 stars out of 5. It gets 0 as it fails to entertain the masses- the common movie goers. But, it gets 3 stars still, because of Kiran's excellent cinematic portrayal of the busiest Indian city in a movie of just one and half hours duration. Also it's a departure from nonsense hits like Dabangg, Tees Maar Khan and Golmaal 3 that hurt the intellectual movie goer for quite sometime.
